Jorden Blue Doody and David James Doody have been working together as artists since they met over five years ago. Jorden was born in Kelowna in 1980 and has lived most of her life in British Columbia. David was born in St. Johns Nfld. in 1979 and travelled by car to British Columbia with his family when he was 6. In the spring of 2001 Jorden returned to Kelowna for the summer from Vancouver where she had lived for 2 years. That same spring David also returned to Kelowna from a six month surf safari in Costa Rica (with good ole budy Matty MacCaull). The two artists first met at the historic Hotel Eldorado in the merry month of May. They instantly fell madly in love and were engaged in a few short months.
Their love for both eachother and the wide world around them was obvious in the passion expressed through their artwork. Their first child, Joshua Clearwater was born the following year. As soon as Joshua had a few months under his belt the family of three, accompanied by David's tallest and only sister Sarah returned to Costa Rica where the climate was more favorable for the raising of children (and surfing). After four months the family returned to Canada inspired and fully charged.
After returning that summer, Jorden and David performed their first collaborative live painting show at a local club. This event, however spontaneous, was to forever change their art making processes. "We became, or I should say realized, we realized we were joined at the hip". In the fall of 2002 they decided to see how far they could take their passions and enrolled in the Visual Arts program at the University of the Okanagan.
Half way through their second year they were blessed with their second and most wild and hairy child Sierra Rain. At the end of their second year of university and with the passing of young Sierra's four month birthday they returnrd yet again to the favorable child rearing climate of Central America. This time they were accompanied by not only their two children and well pregnant sister Sarah, but also by Sarah's fiance (and David's long time surf buddy Aaron), as well as three other artists Ana Cray, Angie M. and Randy G. "An epic vacacione" to say the least .
They returned after a few months and and took to making art with even more vigor than ever. They built a new studio in Kelowna that summer and returned full time to the University of British Columbia-Okanagan that fall. Their intense devotion to eachother was the undeniable source of artistic energy and inspiration. Their art was progressing with leaps and bounds. Before entering into their fourth year of study in the visual arts they headed out yet agian. This time not for some sunny southern shores but due east....
Both David and Jorden agreed, that as artists living and working in Canada, it would only be expected that they embark on the "classic" cross Canada road trip. "So they loaded up the truck and moved to Berverley,... Hills that is" .....or well something like that. The young family of four set out in early April 2006 to brave the Canadian wilderness in an 87 VW bus. The first stop was the west coast, from there was a smiple criss cross, zig-zag, meandering that guided them the 25,000 km's across the continent and back over a four month period. They descibe this trip as " the trip of a life time, never have we been so close to each other or our childern" (literally). "This trip gave us not only fond memories but it opened our eyes to the Canadian art scene, we witnessed a country that has inspired artists for centuries, and most of all we had the chance to meet new artists and make new friends that will last a life time".
